Porcelain Coping Edge Chip & Scallop Repair
This repair involved a deep perimeter chip along the exposed edge of an external stone-effect porcelain slab in Dubai. Replacing a single large-format paver or coping stone creates immense logistical challenges, grout mismatch, and potential waterproofing issues. The restoration was carried out directly in place in a single visit, completely eliminating the blemish without replacement.
The Damage
An impact along the exposed perimeter caused a sharp, semi-circular scalloped chip extending inward from the edge. The fracture exposed the smooth underlying ceramic body, which contrasted sharply against the stone slab’s textured surface and compromised the straight sightline of the edge.
The Repair
The chipped void was thoroughly cleaned, primed, and rebuilt using a weather-resistant structural acrylic resin formulated to withstand outdoor foot traffic and thermal expansion. The technician sculpted the damaged edge back to its precise linear edge, meticulously hand-matching the granular stone specks and mottled color gradient of the surrounding porcelain. A textured matte protective clear coat was then applied to seamlessly replicate the non-slip factory tactile finish.
