Quartz Countertop Chip Repair in Dubai: What Works

A chipped quartz countertop can almost always be repaired on site. The chip is cleaned, filled with a resin tinted to match your quartz, then shaped and polished so it sits flush with the edge or surface. Hairline cracks can often be filled and stabilised the same way. Replacing a quartz slab is rarely needed for a single chip or crack.

Quartz is now the most common countertop material in new Dubai apartments and villas. It's hard-wearing, but it isn't indestructible. Edges and corners take knocks from pans, bottles and furniture, and sink cut-outs are prone to cracks. This guide covers quartz countertop repair from start to finish: what causes the damage, how the repair is done and what you can realistically expect.

Common types of quartz countertop damage

Edge and corner chips

The most common job. A dropped pan or a knock from a chair takes a small piece out of the edge, often on the overhang by a breakfast bar or near the hob. These are ideal for repair because the chip is shallow and the edge profile can be rebuilt.

Chips around the sink

Undermount sinks leave a thin edge of quartz exposed. Heavy pots knock against it and small chips appear along the rim. These are repaired the same way as edge chips, with extra care to keep the water seal intact.

Hairline cracks

Cracks often start at a cut-out for the sink or hob, where the slab is weakest, or from a sudden temperature change. A crack that hasn't separated can be filled with resin to stop it spreading and make it far less visible.

Scratches and dull patches

Quartz worktop scratches from cutting directly on the surface, or dull patches from harsh cleaners, can usually be reduced or removed with careful polishing.

How quartz countertop chip repair works

  • Clean and prepare. The chip is cleaned and degreased so the resin bonds properly.

  • Colour match. We tint a clear resin to match your quartz, including any flecks or veining. Most of the skill in quartz worktop repair is in this step.

  • Fill and cure. The chip is overfilled slightly and the resin is cured until it's hard.

  • Shape and polish. The repair is cut back to the original edge profile and polished through finer grades until the shine matches the slab.

A single chip is usually finished in one visit, and the countertop can normally be used the same day. You can see a similar result on a natural stone worktop in our marble worktop chip repair case study.

What results to expect

On white, grey and speckled quartz, a professional repair usually blends in so well that it's hard to find unless you know where to look. Large chips on bold veined quartz are more demanding. We'll always tell you what result to expect before we start, rather than promise an invisible repair that isn't realistic.

When a quartz countertop needs replacing

  • the crack has opened up and the two sides have moved apart or are at different heights;

  • a large section of the edge has broken away and taken the edge profile with it;

  • there are many chips along a long run, so a new section would cost less than repairing them all.

For most homes, landlords and holiday lets, repair is the faster and more cost-effective choice. It also avoids removing a slab, re-plumbing a sink and waiting weeks for a fabricator.

Looking after your quartz countertop

  • Use chopping boards and trivets, as quartz resin can scorch and scratch.

  • Clean with mild soap and water instead of bleach or abrasive pads.

  • Fix small chips early: the edge of a chip catches cloths and pans and can grow.

Why quartz countertops chip so often in Dubai kitchens

Open-plan kitchens with islands and breakfast bars are standard in Dubai apartments and villas. Those long exposed edges and overhangs are where most quartz countertop chips happen: stools knock the underside, heavy cookware catches the edge, and cleaning trolleys clip the corners in holiday homes. Thin mitred edges, used to make a slab look thicker, are especially vulnerable because the joint sits right on the corner.

Can you repair a quartz chip yourself?

DIY quartz chip repair kits exist, and for a tiny chip in a plain white or grey worktop they can help. The difficulty is colour matching and polishing. A home kit usually leaves a repair that's a slightly different shade, sits proud of the edge or looks dull next to the polished quartz. On veined or coloured quartz, a professional repair gives a far better result, and it's much harder to correct a failed DIY repair afterwards.

What affects the cost of quartz countertop repair

  • Size and position of the chip: a small chip on a straight edge is quicker than a large chip on a corner or mitred joint.

  • Colour and pattern: plain colours are quicker to match than bold veining.

  • Number of chips: fixing several chips in one visit lowers the cost per repair.

  • Cracks: a crack needs extra work to stabilise before it's filled and polished.
